Galway Bay fm newsroom – Former Chairman and owner of Aer Arann, Padraig Ó Céidigh has thrown his name in the hat for the Seanad election.
The Barna resident bought the airline in 1994 but resigned as Chairman in 2013.
Aer Arann was taken over by Stobart Air.
Pádraig Ó Céidigh says he will contest a seat in the Seanad on the NUI Panel and hopes to make a positive contribution:
Meanwhile, city Councillor Pearce Flannery is also set to contest the Seanad election for the Fine Gael party.
He is the only candidate being put forward by the party for the NUI Panel.
The businessman and author is currently a member of the University Governing Authority of NUI Galway.
He holds a Degree in Economics from NUIG, a Graduate Diploma from GMIT and an MBA from the University of Limerick.
Independent County Councillor Thomas Welby is hoping to contest the Seanad election on the Administration Panel.
He is a member of a grouping of independent local representatives from around the country called Independents Together.
Councillor Welby says if successful, it would be the first time that an Independent senator would be elected on the vocational panels.
