Drop-out rates at GMIT among worst nationwide

Galway Bay fm newsroom β Itβs been revealed that a number of courses offered by GMIT have some of the worst drop-out rates in the country.
Figures show that in some cases, just one in four students who undertook a course at the IT between 2014 and last year achieved a qualification.
One in four students who undertook Construction Management at GMIT achieved a qualification β the third worst figure in the tables for third level institutions nationwide.
Rates for Mechanical Engineering and Architectural Technology are little better, with 7 in 10 students dropping out from both courses between 2014 and last year.
The figures are some of the worst nationwide and mean that GMIT appears three times in the list of the top ten worst completion rates at third level institutions.
Overall, over thirty courses offered by GMIT experienced drop-out rates above the national average of 3 in 10 β with fifteen courses reaching rates of 5 in 10 and above.
Two courses offered by NUI Galway also experienced high drop out rates.
Just one in two students undertaking Project and Construction Management or Midwifery achieved a qualification.
Nationally, Limerick IT has the worst drop-out rate for a single course, with just one in ten students completing Pharmaceutical and Forensic Analysis.
