Galway Bay fm newsroom – A decision on planning permission for Apple’s new data centre in Athenry has been pushed back until May.
A decision on an appeal to An Bord Pleanála was expected to be made this month, but has now been delayed.
Galway County Council granted planning permission for the 850 million euro Apple Data Centre in Athenry last September.
However, that decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by various people including Concerned Residents of Lisheenkyle and Athenry Golf Club.
The proposed development would involve a single-storey data centre, logistic and administration building and security unit at Palmerstown, Tobberroe and Derrydonnell.
Some objections centre on the proposed entrance for the centre and working hours during the construction phase.
A decision was due to be made last week, however An Bord Pleanála has now pushed back the date for an expected decision to the end of May. (23/5)
The planning authority has requested further information justifying the size of the site.
Also An Bord Pleanála wants information about plans to power the data centre by 100 per cent renewable energy.
