Galway Bay Fm newsroom-While a deal is understood to be close with Aer Arann continuing air services to the Arann Islands a Government spokesperson says that, conrary to other media reports, no agreement has yet been finalised.
When contacted by Galway Bay Fm news today (Saturday Oct 3) a Department of the Gaeltacht spokesperson said that while it was close to agreement with Aer Arann for a one year extension to its contract all details were not yet completed.
This is contrary to a report in today’s Irish Independent which stated that Minister Joe McHugh had agreed to the one year deal. The report stated that a “verbal agreement” was reached earlier between the carrier and the Department.
However the Department spokesperson confirmed to Galway Bay Fm that negotiations were close to completion but some outstanding issues had yet to be resolved.
Padraig O Ceidigh of Aer Arann Islands was unavailable for comment today but former Minister Deputy Eamon O Cuiv said his understanding is that the deal is close to completion but a number of “loose ends” still had to be “tidied up”.
