Galway Bay fm newsroom – Several Galway city businesses want the creation of a public information campaign to deal with discarded drug litter.
A drug litter pilot scheme was implemented in Dublin earlier this year with specific syringe bins places at two drug litter blackspots.
Fairgreen Business Community in the city says the Dublin scheme has been successful in keeping hypodermic needles off the streets.
The bins, which display biological hazard signs are placed in areas where drug litter has been reported to be a serious problem, but the locations are not published online.
The business community wants agencies such as the council, Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force and Gardaí to work together to create an information campaign.
Spokesperson for Fairgreen Business Community, Tara Dalrymple, says drug littering in the city is becoming more prevalent and is a city-wide problem.
