Galway Bay fm newsroom – Voting is getting underway around now at the Aran Islands branch of the IFA, as the organisation bids to elect a new national president.
Athenry’s Joe Healy is among three candidates for the hotly-contested position – he’ll face competition from Henry Burns and Flor McCarthy.
Nationally, 947 branches will hold their own secret ballot for the positions of president and deputy president.
The final national count will place in the Castleknock Hotel in Dublin on Tuesday the 19th of April.
The IFA’s national returning officer Jer Bergin says Aran Island farmers are among the first in the country to have their say.
