Galway Bay fm newsroom – It’s been revealed that almost 2,500 new tourism jobs have been created in Galway since the reduction of the 9% tourism VAT rate in 2011.
That’s according to the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, which says that nationally, the sector now employs almost quarter of a million people.
However, it’s warning that while tourism is performing strongly, growth and regional balance should not be taken for granted.
Chief Executive of the ITIC Eoghan O’ Mara Walsh says that while the sector is booming at present, there is some uncertainty ahead.
