Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has been allocated almost 100 thousand euro for the purchase of a new flood barrier for Ballinasloe town.
A temporary flood barrier was deployed in the St Michael’s Square area following severe flooding at the end of last year.
The new barrier will now be deployed as needed to cope with rising water levels in the River Suck during severe weather events.
A further 20 thousand euro has been sanctioned for drainage works at Derrymullen.
Roscommon Galway TD Denis Naughten says he hopes other County Galway flood mitigation works can also be fast tracked.
